The Community for Catholic Moms
I worked as a nursing assistant fifteen years ago or so and I think I was pretty good at it. I loved the old folks. I still love to visit them with my therapy dogs. But most of the people I visit are strangers or at best acquaintances. It is easy to be sweet and patient. I can change the subject by having the dog do a trick or politely say that I need to go because I promised to visit Ms. So and So in the next wing. However, this week the Lord is reminding me that I need to extend the same sweet generosity to my dear husband who is laid up for a few weeks after having surgery. This is not so easy. I have to will my flesh to leave the chore I'm doing or the book I'm reading. I have to work at being pleasant sometimes. This week I have off from work is supposed to be spent nursing my husband - not vacationing. I realized again that what I do for others, I also do for Christ. It was the best Lenten reminder I've had this season.
