Hi Donna, Just browsing the site to look for other moms in the area, I live in Collegeville! You must be a special lady to do what you do with the PREP children! I too have taught PREP in the past and taught at a Catholic school. I now stay home…

Donna Wilhelm commented on Mary Ellen Barrett's group 'Moms of Special Needs Children'
Hi Stephanie, and welcome! Sometimes it can feel very lonely parenting a special needs child. This is a good place to meet up with other moms who are going through the same thing, so please know that you aren't alone. Are there any groups for…

I was thinking of taking my almost 7 year old son Mario to a special needs CCD. He really is not verbal and has a lot of issues with communication. I don't think he has any understanding at this point of God or Church. So I am curious as to…

Hi Carolyn! My children go to public school. I'm a big proponent of the local YMCA. They have lots of activities for both children and adults, and many of the families in our community are involved. I hope this helps! -Donna

Although I'm always wishing the house were more presentable, my children always know that their friends are welcome to hang out at our house. I try to keep snacks and juice/soda/iced tea in the house for everyone. The kids don't seem to…

It's a little harder during the summer, but during the school year, when I pick my kids up, I get there a little early so I can read for about 20 minutes. Also, if you can get out one night during the week, go to the library for a while and…

MY son will hopefully be confirmed this year. I was stressed during his First Penance and First Holy Communion, but in that age group, educational issues aren't as bad since it seems that all children differ quite a bit at that stage in regards…

I thought I was a good Catholic until my son let himself be pulled away from it. I then talked to my priest, but the one thing that really helped was watching The Journey Home on EWTN. They have lots of info on books and such. I started reading up…

Is anyone getting their child(ren) ready for sacraments?

I'm a special needs PREP teacher at my parish, and in addition to my 7-year-old son, I'm getting three other children in the group ready for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in the coming school year. Does anyone have any experience with this? The youth education director at the parish is great. The kids will have an abbreviated Act of Contrition, and we're trying to give them a very basic knowledge of the sacraments.Let me know if you know of any resources I could use. The most basic I…See More

I attend Mass on a fairly regular basis, teach PREP for 5 adorable special needs children, but I'm feeling disconnected from my faith and I want to feel God's presence in my life more strongly.
