Invasion of Ants

Our house has been INVADED with sugar ants. They don't bite but they're everywhere. Nothing is safe: the cabinet, pantry, counter tops, table, floor, even the bathroom. EW. Last year we kept them at…Continue

"We've just noticed this problem yesterday. I had one of the kids drink a can of Coke yesterday (what a chore! How did they survive???) and leave a little bit on the bottom. We mixed equal parts of Borax and white sugar, and then poured it into…"

Sibling Fights

I homeschool two of my nieces in the mornings (2nd and 4th grade). If I leave them unattended for more than 20 minutes (to clean the kitchen, do laundry, or whatever), invariably they start fighting. My question is: how many of these fights should be refereed, and how many left for them to resolve themselves? There's no physical hitting; it's mostly yelling or talking in angry tones, "Stop it!!" etc. I don't like the disquiet in my home (and try to keep up the school feel) so I step in pretty…See More

Tell us about yourself
I was living in the city, teaching at a Catholic school and working on my Ph.D. in Philosophy when I met a dashing Catholic farmer from far far away. Left it all behind to marry this man of my dreams and haven't looked back. We're so in love! It's still an adjustment, though. Ballets, symphonies, art museums, and days on the town are replaced by county fairs, livestock auctions, fence painting and trips to the parts store. Now I'm a high school youth minister and homeschool 2 of our nieces. It's a blessed life!

Hannah's Tears

Without a word our glances meet. He sees the bitter grief in my eyes and knows my thoughts... the wound I'm salting... again. His eyes caress me with his tender gaze of love.

"When does it hurt?" he asks me softly.

I sigh deeply. I don't like talking about it; even with my dearest love. It's too painful.

"When does it hurt?" he repeats gently. His compassionate tones massage my aching heart.

"When women complain about morning sickness. When friends… Continue
