Homeschooling Children with Special Needs

I am new to this group and sent a message out to everyone thinking I was sending a "Discussion" so I am sorry for doing the wrong thing. My question is: Does anyone else out there Homeschool their SN child? I have four children total: 8y/o Xavier (SN) severely disabled, cannot walk/talk and functions around 10months old~developmentally.  He has a 1:1 helper, she works in my home with me and Xavier from 8:30am-3:30pm Mon-Fri.And three little girls 4y/o, 2y/o and an infant. We are struggling with…See More

Hi Amber,

Thank you so much for leaving me my very first comment!  I just joined Faith and Family yesterday so like you, I'm still trying to figure out how this all works as well.  I belong to a couple of different social networks (Cafemom and Facebook) so joining a new one, I'm learning the differences and similarities.  Cafemom I joined a few years back when I was looking for on-line support groups for mothers of children with ASD and ADHD.  Then a year or so later I joined Facebook because I was starting to get emails from friends I had long lost touch with, requesting me to join.  Facebook has been such a blessing in that regard, as I've reconnected with so many old friends and am able to connect with family both near and far.  In fact, I had heard about Faith and Family because of Facebook!  I have a couple of friends who are "Facebook fans" of Faith and Family.  Then my husband sent me a link for the Faith and Family Day for Moms retreat in April and they're holding it at the parish where my husband and I were married!  My husband is friends with one of the bloggers on here, as they are old classmates from the days that he and his family lived in Augusta, so he passed the info on to me yesterday and suggested I look into it.  One thing led to another, and here I am!

I loved looking at your pictures.  Congratulations on the birth of your "Sweet Caroline"!  Being a huge Boston Red Sox fan, I have a special love for that song! :)  Your children are positively beautiful.  I very much look forward to getting to know you as well.  You and your family will be in my prayers.  Take care and God bless you all.

In Christ's Peace & Friendship,

Kim

Hi Amber,
I read your post at the Special Needs section. I hope things are well with you...guessing you must have had your baby by now. How are you doing? I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I have not been here much lately but plan to change that.

I see you are the only Catholic in your house? Me too. My oldest daughter and her husband are also in the army.
Well, look forward to talking with you sometime soon! God bless and keep you and all of your family.
With Love in Jesus!,
Amylisa
