Donna brought up a good point: we must not forget to show hospitality to the people we see every day: our spouses and children! How do YOU make your home a welcoming place for those closest to you?
Although I'm always wishing the house were more presentable, my children always know that their friends are welcome to hang out at our house. I try to keep snacks and juice/soda/iced tea in the house for everyone. The kids don't seem to notice the mess as much as I do, and they appreciate having somewhere to play for a while. I feel better knowing that my kids and their friends are at a safe place, and I know who my kids are hanging out with and what they're doing.
I think it is important to treat my family as I would guests. This means for me, to present my self to them as I would for company. I have done this for many years and I think it helps maintain a welcoming attitude. I also try to think 'would I do this or say this to or if company were here' , sometimes I remember this better than others but I keep trying.
I also think 'talking' about these things reminds us to do tharem if we have been lax....which I have.
God Bless
