Faith and Family Connect

The Community for Catholic Moms

My special needs child is my oldest of our ten children. She is soon to be 23 years old and is mildly intellectually disabled. I'd love to connect with moms of older special needs children and talk about what your kids are doing, how you keep them busy, how you cope, etc.

I have a soon to be nineteen year old with Down Syndrome. The issues sure do change, dont they? What is ou daughter doing now?
Our daughter is working at a grocery store and bakery. She enjoys her work, but struggles with wanting to have an active social life like her siblings who are in college. It's tough watching others pass you in things that show your independence like driving a car, going to college, dating, etc. I know its only going to get tougher as the younger ones start to achieve independence. I'm anxious about it and struggle with trusting the plans our Lord has for our daughter.
