Faith and Family Connect

The Community for Catholic Moms

Last night I went to my first OA meeting. The meeting and the prayers really seemed to resonate with me. Another newcomer opened up about how she had been praying to the Virgin Mary asking for guidance. She then met a woman from her church who told her about OA. I too have been saying extra prayers to Mary to help me get healthier and to be a strong mom. OA seems to be a good fit for me to overcome compulsive overeating and to focus on my faith.

I am curious to find out if there are other members here who participate in OA or anyone else who deals with compulsive overeating.

Today is a first big step!

Brenda, I have never been to a meeting but have a family member who was actively involved in OA for several years. For that person, it was a true blessing. It's great that there is someone in the group who is spiritual. Were you assigned a sponsor and is it considered to be a 12 step program?

Please be assured of my prayers for you this week!
Lisa, yes it is a 12 step program and it is all new to me. I was not assigned a sponsor at this time. That may come at the next meeting. Thank you for the prayers. I have struggled with yo-yo dieting for years and simply want it to end.

I look forward to being a part of this group as well. Thanks for leading and praying!
I am a big compulsive eater. I used to owe it to stress- but even with my stress level becoming less. I am still trying hard to curb those impulse eating decisions. Maybe we can both pray for each other to overcome this habit. God Bless
