We Are God's Temple
Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person; for the temple of God, which you are, is holy. 1 Corinthians 16-17
My daughter and I were reading a book the other day that she got from Christmas called "Just Like Mary" by Rosemarie Gortler and Donna Piscitelli. In it was this quote in the section called Looking for Jesus: "When we are afraid or anxious, we can look for Jesus, too. His is in the temple we call our bodies, because He lives in our hearts."
Something just clicked with me. I mean, I guess I always knew I was supposed to take care of myself, but I never really took it seriously until I read this with her. That quote stayed with me for a bit.
I have been buying some toxin-free cleaning and personal care products for a little over 3 years now, and that has helped our health a lot. I'm not as stuffy as I used to be and I don't get sick when I'm cleaning. I just don't have the time or the desire to make my own. And I know what I'm buying is safe.
My downfall are my eating habits. I tend to go with what is the easiest. My husband has been prodding me to cook healthier, but I just haven't had the desire. I'm not much on cooking. But something has come over me. I spent an hour and a half in our garden yesterday, pulling weeds (more like small trees) and accumulating some very tasty green beans.
I cooked those green beans for dinner, and they tasted SO GOOD. There was something about cultivating those green beans and being able to eat them that I was very proud of. Granted, my husband initiated the whole garden thing and planted and tilled, but they were OUR green beans. And I KNEW that there were no chemicals on them and I could give them to my kids free and clear. It was so wonderful. The whole time I was picking them, I was thanking God for our wonderful small little harvest in our backyard (well, it's a good size actually).
So I wanted to start this group so I could maybe get some ideas from you ladies on how you stay healthy. I'm not just talking about the products we use or the things we eat, but we also need to be exercising. Feel free to post discussions about your successes with all three aspects of this. I would love if you felt the desire to share some recipes too!
God bless you all.
