I wanted to tell everyone that Sacred Heart Church (SI) will celebrate the first traditional Latin high mass of the year on Staten Island!
On Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. Fr. Peter Miara, will be the priest-celebrant of a Missa Cantata, or traditional Latin High Mass celebrated with incense and traditional Gregorian chant. The musical setting for the Mass shall be Missa de Angelis . In addition, traditional Catholic hymns such as O Sanctissima and Panis Angelicus, will be sung by the congregation.
William J. Leininger, Chairman of the Grasmere-based New York Latin Liturgy Association, stressed that Latin-English missalettes will be available to all those attending the Mass so that they can fully understand the liturgy and fully participate in the prayers and chants of the Mass. He stressed that Catholics who desire a more traditional liturgy will want to experience this Mass which has nourished the souls of so many saints through the centuries. Confession will be available prior to Mass. Gregorian chant practice will be held at 2:40 P.M.
