I don't know about you, but the Swine flu has made its rounds by us already. My middle son had it. My other two may have had it, but neither of them had fevers.

We're trying to decide whether or not to get them vaccinated.
Are you having your children vaccinated?
Why or why not?

Absolutely! If we ever get the vacine. I heard a local pharmacist talk about it yesterday and the ones that are suffering the most with this that she has seen are kids. Please be responsible and take care of the health of not only your children but many others as well.

I would say if your children did not have fevers, they did not have the H1N1 flu. I have had flu shots for many years, I am in my 50's and also have a kindergartner. In my 20's I got the Hong Kong flu. I was very very sick and it developed into a swelling of my brain. It caused tremendous headaches. I have never regretted getting any kind of flu shot or getting one for my children. I have 4 boys, ages 14 to 5.

Please look at your state's Health department website for symptoms and recommendations. If your state doesn't have anything go to Nebraska.gov. We have a great one with lots of resources.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to express my opinion.
I wasn't planning to vaccinate my kids but now I am thinking about it.
My youngest son has autism and he was autistic before he received vaccinations. I didn't get him vaccinated until he was over 3 years old, and then so that he could attend preschool / therapy.
He has had his regular flu shot already this year...my pediatrician offered the H1N1 vacc. the other day because my son has asthma. I held off for now.

This flu is going around our state. I think I may go ahead and get the shot for him. One thing I have read is that single dose vaccs. are safer especially for kids (as opposed to regular shots which come from multi-dose vials). They didn't have any single doses but the dr. said they will be getting some soon. I will wait for that I think.

I heard so much negative about the vaccine, I am still hesitant. I am praying about it and asking God to guide me.
Thanks ladies! A couple of notes: I described my kids' symptoms to a doctor I work with. He thought it was highly likely that the other two (not the one who was diagnosed with it) had "sub-clinical" infections of swine flu and said there was no need to vaccinate. Then my neighbor's daughter had it and her doctor told her to have that same child vaccinated, which made no sense at all. That doctor's reasoning was that the testing for swine flu they are doing in doctor's offices is only testing for type A influenza. Unless they do the more expensive swine flu test, they don't know for sure it was swine flu. So one doctor is saying it's not necessary (because they already had it) and another is saying it is because we don't know for certain. Argh!

Thanks again!
Cathy
I will be getting the H1N1 for my kids and if I can myself & my husband.
My little boy is getting his shot today, a single-dose vial. It does not have thimerosal.
I've made an appt. for my older kids to get it next week, the nasal spray type.
I am still kind of nervous about this today, but I have to trust my gut about it and trust God to lead me.
May He lead and protect us all! Dear Mother please keep all of us under your mantle, especially all the kids.
I'm afraid by the time the vaccine gets here, the kids get innoculated, and build immunity, the flu will already have made its rounds.

My husband is very wary of vaccination and doesn't want the kids to have the shots. I'm starting to think they should get them. (They have had the seasonal flu vaccine before.) And I'm pregnant, and I think my doctor will be encouraging me to get it as well when it becomes available here.

I really have difficulty discerning what's best concerning vaccines with all the varying opinions and experiences out there.
I have not received it yet (I am 7 months pregnant), but only because it's just not available here.

My daughter has not had h1n1, but a lot of people I know have. I'm a bit worried since I am pregnant, but I'm not really changing my activities other then maybe washing my hands more.

I have another prenatal appointment next week, and am hoping to get it then.
My kids will not be receiving it. We don't vaccinate in our household, and the risks seem to outweigh the benefits for me.
Both of my kids got the vaccine (Flumist for my 3yo and injection for my 1yo), and both will need to get the booster shot in a month. In our state, the vaccines are only available at public health clinics, and we waited in line for five hours to get in last week (which I probably wouldn't have done had I know it would be a five hour wait). I know people in communities that have been very hard hit by H1N1 and I know at least two people who have close friends who have died from it.

So far, I haven't heard any reasons for not getting the vaccine that can be backed up with science or other kinds of proof. I know people are wary, but there doesn't seem to be any hard evidence against it. If either of my kids got seriously ill and I knew that might have been able to prevent it with the vaccine, but didn't, I wouldn't be able to live with the guilt.
I have already had my two sons ages 4 and 2 vaccinated with the nasal one. As soon as he is allowed my husband will get his as he has asthma. I just can't risk them getting sick with something that I could have prevented.

We prayed about it quite a bit before we came to this decision. One of my sisters is not getting her children vaccinated because she fears how new and in her view untested the vaccine is. Her opinion is one we have always greatly looked up to. After much prayer though we decided to do the vaccinations and we simply hope that for our family we have made the right choice.
