Hi everyone! I know that in the Coffee Talk discussions people have sung the praises of the Shark Steam mop, and, after watching an infomercial on it while I was nursing, I'm thinking about getting one. (Ok--so it was the middle of the night, but it still looked like a good product.) I see two listed at Target.com: the Shark Steam Pocket Mop and the Shark Deluxe Steam Mop. Both have great reviews. The Pocket Mop is more expensive, but it has a swivel head. Anybody have thoughts on either model?
I fear I am about to be flagged as an official spokesperson for this thingm b/c I think this might be my 3rd or 4th post about it, but I love mine. I always hated mopping my tile floors (our kitchen is very big & it was a huge job). The thing that got me wasn't the work, but the fact that unless I emptied the water bucket 4 or 5 times, the floor just didn't seem clean no matter what I did (as evident by the dirt on the crawler's knees). We have 4 kids and a dog and live with a very muddy backyard and woods behind, so it was really tough to have a clean floor.
I don't have a swivel head, but I think it would be a great addition. The fixed head does get a little frustrating when you want to get in a tight spot, although you get used to it. I would base my decision on the layout of your room and how many obstacles you need to get around (think about it, your mop probably doesn't have a swivel head).
The one thing I would really recommend is to get extra pads right away. I ordered a pack of 12 from ebay after doing price comparisons. You won't want to wash the dirty pads with anything else (trust me, they get really yucky), and you can't use your mop w/out a clean one, so I find it best to have a big supply on hand, save them up and then wash them all at once. Well worth the $$. It may take 2-3 washes to get the residue up from whatever you have been using, but after that the floors are so clean, you can feel the difference when you go barefoot, and no more dingy legs on the crawling baby. Now if only he would learn to walk :)
