We read to our kids in bed, usually after prayer time. We have a captive audience! I would suggest a book that has wide appeal and cliff hangers at the end of every chapter. "The Wheel on the School" is one such book. My kids from age 14-6 all loved that one. Now it doesn't really matter what I read, they all love to listen. I think it has to be a wonderful family time for all of us.

A few years ago, my husband read to the kids a rather advanced children's Bible - a page or two at a time. Then he would close the book and give clues while my children guessed which Biblical character he was thinking of. This has come to be called "Bible Guessing Game". Consequently, my children know their Bible very well. Even my older grown children fondly remember all the people in the Bible they got to know with their dad.
What a fun game! Thanks for the idea, Mary!
