The Community for Catholic Moms

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had advice for meeting other Catholic moms (or Christian moms, or just moms in general) for someone who is both very shy and very busy. I have two kids (ages 5 and 1) and work outside the home 20 hours a week. My husband and I live in the area we grew up in (northern VA), and I am very blessed to have extended family nearby, as well as friends from high school and college, most of whom have settled in the area.  However, I realized that in the almost 8 years since graduating college, I haven’t made any new friends. I still see some of my old friends, but it’s usually once a month or less, and I miss the kinds of friends you see all the time. We got married and had kids long before any of our friends did, and working/housework/errands etc. takes up so much time, so it’s a struggle just to see the friends I have. What I would really like is other mom friends I can see often, like once a week or so. There’s an active mother’s group at my church that meets weekly, which would be ideal, but it meets while I work.

I know there are other people on this board who are in the Arlington diocese, like I am. Do any of you know of any playgroups, church mother’s groups, etc. in the area that meet often (preferably on a Thursday or Friday, since those are my days off?) Anyone have advice in general about connecting with other moms?

I don't live on your area, but how about posting something in the church bulletin? We have a group of mom's that get together weekly for a rosary playgroup as well as once a month for moms night out. If you can't find something to join - I say start something yourself!!
