Hey Friends,
I am writing looking for some ideas and help with feeding my 12 month old.
It's been a few years since I had a 12 month old. My daughters are 4 1/2 years apart. My 12 month old has been my 1st to exclusively nurse (I pumped to a bottle for my oldest) so I've had a lot of trouble to get her to now use a sippy cup. She still has not gotten the hang of it. Also, she is still figuring out how to feed herself with puff and little finger foods. She has the pincher grasp down like a champ, but aside from large rice biscuits that she feeds herself, doesn't feed the tiny things to herself yet. She has started solid foods (pureed), and now has 3 teeth coming in.
Also, like my eldest, she is also on the tiny side. My pediatrician has not been too worried since every appt she has grown - if only in the 10th percentile. I've been very happy with this. She is not crawling yet, but again, not a worry - she scoots on the hardwoods, and can stand with support. Because she has consistently grown, everyone has been fine with her development - even though she is small.
Well, her 12 month appt brought some concern. She is still at her 9 month weight (15.9 lbs) she has gotten taller - but since her weight dropped off they wanted to both get some blood tests done next week, and bump up her food choices now that she is 12 months and past some of the 9 month allergies. Welcome to the world of dairy and egg yolks, beans, tofu, hummus, avocado, etc. She's still nursing a lot (I love nursing, and with the whole avoidance issue she has with cups I still want to make sure she gets all that good momma milk)!
I need some support. Even though she is TOTALLY interactive, happy, belly laughing, alert, scooting baby, she is my little peanut. I felt responsible for her lack of weight gain (though the doctor said it wasn't me or us - just her current place on the growth chart) and the blood tests are not "stat" - but I would love some words from moms who have been there!
What you tried to get your baby to like:
~ a sippy cup
~ finger foods
~ whole milk
and what foods have you used to:
~ add healthy fats
~ introduce table foods
~ encourage weight gain
~ all over nutrition
~ independent eating
and of course, anything that fits those categories! Recipes are welcome!!
I did not realize this forum was here, so I posted this on a new group "Kids and Parenting Corner". Sorry for the duplication!
Thanks so much! God Bless!
