I have always had good intentions of being organized. Every so often I make lists, write schedules and plan days, weeks, months in advance. It all starts off well, and a week later we are back to the same chaos! How do you get organized? Is this something I will aquire with age or will I always let chaos reign in my home? I need good advice and a plan that might work, something that will keep me on track, any ideas?

I can't say that I am organized...but I can say that your senario is familiar....all too familiar! Lately I have made some headway by trying to create routines that last, and by taking organization a little bit at a time. For example, I wanted to organize my linen closet for weeks (okay....a year!) and then I began spending some blog time on organization blogs looking for ideas (with pictures) and, though I didn't find anything earth shattering, I got a few ideas that encouraged me and ended up spending one afternoon organizing that closet. It is still pretty well organized.

I, like you, get big ideas and want to write out big elaborate schedules, but they never work. The only thing that has worked is little routines (like our morning routine...simply get dressed, go potty, brush teeth, eat breakfast. Now I want to add exercise, as a family, before breakfast. Since the routine is set, I think it will work.). When I get a new thing to do, I try to attach it to an existing routine.

At any rate, this baby step approach has helped me get a little more organized.
Hi Carrie,

I have an apostolate to help families simplify, declutter and get organized. My apostolate is called Project Nazareth . We look to the Holy Family and their virtues in their home in Nazareth. I was an organizational consultant for 15 years before I stayed home to raise my family. I also wrote a Spiritual Journal to help declutter, organize and systemize the home. The title is Simplifying Your Domestic Church. If you go on my website, there is an 800 number there for free organizational consultations. This is an apostolate on my end so please feel free to call.

Elizabeth Foss also wrote an article in Faith & Family a couple of weeks back. Check it out.

God Bless !
Abby
